This was the result of a collaboration with members of the San Diego Symphony bassoon section, who thought that 3D printing was a perfect method to create these tiny witch hat shaped devices that increase the softer dynamic range of the bassoon. The function of this mute is to act as a soft dynamic "helper" and provide the player with more confidence in situations where greater dynamic control is needed. They do not function as a practice mute.
